Rohan G. Perera, M.B,B.S., M.R.C.P (UK), FACC, Dipl.Nuc. Card Cardiology I entered cardiology because it gave me the right mixture of the art and the science of medicine. In practice today we are fortunate to have at our disposal the fruits of the unstinting research of our predecessors and the continuing efforts of our contemporaries. I feel that we owe it to them and in no lesser way to our patients, to continue the pursuit of excellence in the field. This could mean the use of the newest drugs and technology just as often as it may mean avoidance of a glittery but unproven flash in the pan. I am always grateful to patients who trust me to do just that. I am happy to be practicing in these exciting times and honored to be on the TVC starship as we sail into a new century. With all the recent advances in cardiology and a true sense of optimism I will borrow a line from another contemporary cardiologist, "we are not saying that you cannot die from a heart attack any more, it is just becoming harder".
